How to Get to Zagvozd
Zagvozd lies inland above the Makarska Riviera and is best reached by road from Split. Public buses serve the route but a car gives more flexibility for mountain access and short rural roads.
Split Airport (SPU): Split is the nearest major airport for Zagvozd. From SPU you can take an intercity bus towards Makarska/Imotski and then a local bus or taxi to Zagvozd; drive time from Split to Zagvozd is roughly 1-1.5 hours by car.
Dubrovnik / Zadar alternatives: Dubrovnik (DBV) is further away; Zadar (ZAD) and Zagreb (ZAG) are not convenient for this part of Dalmatia compared with Split.
Train: There is no direct rail to Zagvozd; the nearest mainline railhead is Split. From Split, long‑distance and regional buses provide links into the hinterland.
Bus: Buses from Split to Zagvozd or nearby Makarska/Imotski are the most common public transport option. Travel times depend on route and stops but expect around 1-2 hours from Split.
How to Get Around Zagvozd #
Zagvozd is a small mountain village where most things are within walking distance. Bus connections link Zagvozd with Makarska and other Dalmatian towns but can be infrequent, particularly out of season. A car is recommended to explore the Biokovo area and nearby villages. If you plan on hiking, prepare for steep terrain and limited services on trails.
