How to Get to Brela#

Brela on the Makarska Riviera is most commonly reached via Split Airport followed by a bus or taxi to Makarska and a short onward transfer to Brela. Buses along the coast are the usual public‑transport option; a car is handy for flexibility.

By Air

Split Airport (SPU): Split is the main airport for Brela (about 45-60 km). From Split Airport you can take a direct bus or taxi to Makarska (bus ~1-1.5 hours, taxi ~50-70 minutes) and then a short regional bus or taxi to Brela (Makarska→Brela ~15 minutes). Bus timetables change seasonally; check Promet Makarska and airport transfer operators.

Zadar / Dubrovnik: Zadar and Dubrovnik airports are farther away and typically involve longer transfers by road (2+ hours); they are less convenient unless you have specific low‑cost flights.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no direct rail service to Brela; the coastal railway serves other parts of Croatia but you’ll typically use buses along the Dalmatian coast.

Bus: Intercity buses from Split to Makarska are frequent (about 1-1.5 hours) and from Makarska you can catch a local bus or taxi to Brela (around 10-20 minutes). Fares vary by operator and season - expect Split→Makarska tickets to cost in the range of tens of kuna.

How to Get Around Brela#

A car or private transfer is the most convenient, especially with luggage; coastal buses provide a reliable, lower‑cost alternative between Split, Makarska and Brela, with more frequent service in summer.

  • Car / Rental (HRK 200-500/day) - Driving gives the most flexibility to visit beaches and nearby towns; the coastal road can be busy in peak summer. Parking in Brela is available near beaches but can be limited in July-August.
  • Taxi / Airport Transfer (HRK 400-800) - Taxis and private transfers from Split Airport to Brela or Makarska are common; a private transfer to Brela will be faster and more direct than bus, but more expensive. Agree price in advance for airport runs.
  • Intercity Bus (HRK 30-70) - Buses connect Split and Makarska frequently; they’re affordable and the main public option for reaching Brela. From Makarska you’ll switch to a local bus or taxi for the short final leg.
  • Local Bus (HRK 10-30) - Local buses or minibus lines run between Makarska and the Riviera settlements (including Brela). Services increase in summer but check timetables for off‑season reliability.
  • Walking - Brela village and its main beaches are compact and best explored on foot. Coastal promenades and short cliff paths make walking a pleasant way to move between sites.
