A former settlement on Egypt’s North Sinai coast, Yamit was evacuated after the Egypt-Israel peace agreement; the site is noted for historical interest and its proximity to the northern Sinai shoreline.

Yamit was a settlement in the northern Sinai Peninsula that was established during the Israeli occupation after 1967 and subsequently evacuated and dismantled in 1982 following the Egypt-Israel peace treaty. The site lies within what is now Egypt’s North Sinai Governorate.
The settlement was removed as part of the territorial return arrangements under the peace agreement, and the area was cleared and transferred back to Egyptian administration. Presently the former settlement site is not a developed tourist destination.
Geographically Yamit was located on the northwestern coast of the Sinai Peninsula near Rafah and the Gaza Strip, on Egypt’s Mediterranean shoreline.
