How to Get to Yambio
Yambio is most reliably reached by domestic or humanitarian flights to the local airstrip when these operate, or by long overland road journeys from Juba or neighbouring areas. International arrivals use Juba International Airport (JUB).
Juba International Airport (JUB): The primary international hub for South Sudan. From JUB travellers proceed by domestic flight or road to reach Yambio. Taxis into Juba city are negotiated locally and take 20-40 minutes.
Yambio airstrip: Yambio has a local airstrip used by humanitarian flights and occasional charters. Scheduled commercial services are limited; UNHAS flights may be the main regular option when operating to this airstrip.
Train: South Sudan does not have a passenger rail service.
Bus / Road: Road travel to Yambio from Juba or neighbouring regions is possible but long; buses and shared taxis are available irregularly and depend on road conditions and security.
How to Get Around Yambio #
Yambio’s central area is manageable on foot for short errands, though sidewalks and crossings are limited. Keep to daylight hours for walking and use a local guide if unfamiliar with the area. Motorbike taxis and shared minibuses provide the bulk of local transport. Inter-town travel is possible but services are irregular-book ahead and allow for delays, especially in the rainy season.
