Xuân Lộc Travel Guide
City Vietnamese city known for its industrial parks
East of Hồ Chí Minh City, Xuân Lộc serves as countryside base - Trị An Lake boating, coffee plantations, cycling lanes and a slice of Vietnam’s wartime history attract low-key outdoor and history-minded visitors.
Why Visit Xuân Lộc? #
A hub of rural history and everyday Vietnamese life, Xuân Lộc draws visitors who want to see the battlefield memoriam from the 1975 Battle of Xuân Lộc alongside lush rice paddies and coffee farms. Local markets and roadside cà phê shops give a direct taste of regional culture. Come for the quieter pace, the storytelling of older generations, and the chance to observe rice-field landscapes that contrast with Vietnam’s big-city scenes.
Who's Xuân Lộc For?
Xuân Lộc is a quiet Dong Nai district town with safe, low-traffic streets and simple parks where kids can run. Local markets and small cafes near the district center make for easy family outings; day trips to nearby Đồng Nai rice paddies are low-cost.
Rural landscapes around Xuân Lộc suit slow nature outings-rice fields, small rivers and backroads ideal for motorbike loops. The area is best for birdwatching and photographing farmland scenes rather than formal parks; bring mosquito repellent and a local guide for side roads.
Street-side food stalls and simple family-run eateries serve hearty southern-Vietnamese dishes-pho, cơm tấm and grilled river fish. Markets in the town center sell fresh produce and snacks; it’s a good place to sample everyday Đồng Nai home cooking on a budget.
Budget travelers will find cheap guesthouses and easy motorbike hire, making Xuân Lộc a low-cost base for exploring rural Đồng Nai. It’s off the main tourist trail, so expect basic facilities but friendly locals and authentic village life for a modest price.

How to Get to Xuân Lộc
Xuân Lộc is a district town in Đồng Nai province best reached from Ho Chi Minh City. Most visitors arrive via Tan Son Nhat (SGN) and continue by interprovincial bus, private car/Grab, or a combination of train plus road transfer.
Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN): The nearest major airport is Tan Son Nhat in Ho Chi Minh City. From SGN you can take a taxi/Grab car directly to Xuân Lộc (approx. 1,000,000-1,500,000 VND; about 2-2.5 hours depending on traffic). A cheaper option is to take an airport shuttle or local bus to Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Ho Chi Minh City (roughly 20,000-60,000 VND, ~30-60 minutes) and then transfer to an interprovincial coach or minivan to Xuân Lộc (see Bus below; overall 2-3.5 hours end-to-end).
Train: The North-South (Reunification) railway serves Bien Hòa Station (Ga Biên Hòa) and Saigon Railway Station (Ga Sài Gòn). You can take a train to Biên Hòa and then transfer by taxi or local bus toward Xuân Lộc. Typical ticket prices Saigon→Biên Hòa are low (roughly 15,000-40,000 VND depending on class); travel Saigon→Biên Hòa is around 30-60 minutes, then allow additional 1-2 hours by road to reach Xuân Lộc.
Bus: Interprovincial buses and minivans operate from Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Ho Chi Minh City to towns in Đồng Nai province, including services that stop near Xuân Lộc. Fares are generally in the range 60,000-120,000 VND and the journey takes about 2-3 hours from Mien Dong. There are also local buses and provincial routes from Bien Hòa and Long Khánh that cover shorter hops into Xuân Lộc (cheaper but slower).
How to Get Around Xuân Lộc
Xuân Lộc is best navigated by motorbike or car - public transport exists but is limited between smaller communes. For most visitors the easiest approach is to arrive by interprovincial bus or private transfer from Ho Chi Minh City, then use xe ôm or a rented motorbike for local travel.
- Xe ôm (motorbike taxi) (10,000-40,000 VND) - Xe ôm drivers are common for short hops inside town and to nearby villages. Expect short rides to cost roughly 10,000-40,000 VND depending on distance; always agree a price before you go or use the GrabBike app where available. This is the quickest way to navigate narrow streets and reach places not served by buses.
- Grab / Taxi (50,000-1,500,000 VND) - Grab (car and bike) operates in Đồng Nai but availability can be patchy in rural parts of Xuân Lộc; taxis from larger towns are more reliable. Short local fares start low (around 50,000 VND) while longer trips (to Bien Hòa or HCMC) run into hundreds of thousands or more. Use Grab for convenience and metered taxis for guaranteed rides when app coverage is limited.
- Interprovincial bus / Minivan (60,000-120,000 VND) - Buses from Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station in Ho Chi Minh City and provincial services from Bien Hòa/Long Khánh are a common budget choice. Fares typically range 60,000-120,000 VND and travel times to Xuân Lộc are around 2-3 hours from HCMC. Buses drop you at district bus stops where you can switch to local transport for the final leg.
- Train (Reunification Express/local services) (15,000-50,000 VND) - The main railway (Ga Sài Gòn→Ga Biên Hòa and beyond) is useful for reaching Bien Hòa and other regional hubs; tickets for short hops are inexpensive. Trains are comfortable but timetables and onward road connections may make this slower overall - plan transfers (taxi or bus) from stations for the last stretch to Xuân Lộc.
- Motorbike rental (120,000-200,000 VND) - Renting a motorbike is the most flexible way to explore the district and surrounding countryside; daily rates commonly run around 120,000-200,000 VND. Roads are generally passable but can be narrow and busy; wear a helmet, carry ID, and check the bike before setting off.
- Walking - Xuân Lộc town is compact enough to explore on foot for short distances, markets and cafes. Walking is the best way to soak up local life, but for trips between communes or attractions you'll need a motorbike or car.
