Xingtai Travel Guide
City City in Hebei with significant industry
One of Hebei’s older cities, Xingtai draws visitors for its modest old-town temples, county markets, and nearby Taihang foothills where farmers terrace slopes and hiking trails cut through scrub.
Why Visit Xingtai? #
One of China’s oldest urban centers, Xingtai appeals to history-minded visitors with ancient ruins, traditional temple sites, and regional Hebei cuisine. Walk through older quarters to sense layers of history, sample local snacks such as lamb skewers and wheat-based pancakes, and explore nearby rural landscapes that reveal long-settled cultural patterns. The city’s low-key pace makes it a good stop for people interested in everyday provincial life.
Who's Xingtai For?
Xingtai functions as an industrial and logistics center in southern Hebei with heavy manufacturing and freight links by rail and highway. Good for regional business trips, with midrange hotels near the railway station and industrial zones.
Parks, affordable restaurants and family-friendly hotels around the city center suit practical family visits. Public squares and local museums provide simple daytime activities for kids on short stays.
Expect hearty Hebei-style snacks, noodle shops and local markets where you can sample dumplings, braised dishes and street skewers. Dining is inexpensive and focused on comfort food rather than fine dining.
Day trips from Xingtai reach nearby hills, reservoirs and small scenic areas popular with locals for hiking and picnics. These natural escapes are modest but convenient for short outdoor outings.

How to Get to Xingtai
Xingtai is most easily reached by rail: it has both conventional and high‑speed stations (Xingtai Railway Station and Xingtai East) on major north-south corridors. The nearest major airport is Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport (SJW); from there you usually transfer by shuttle, taxi or train into Xingtai.
Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport (SJW): From SJW you typically connect to Xingtai by first taking the airport shuttle or a taxi into Shijiazhuang city (airport shuttle to Shijiazhuang city ~¥25-30, 30-40 minutes), then a regular or high-speed train from Shijiazhuang Railway Station to Xingtai (see Train card for train times and fares). Direct taxis from SJW to Xingtai are possible (roughly ¥300-450, about 1.5-2 hours depending on traffic). Some long‑distance coach services also run from the airport or nearby terminals toward Xingtai (typical coach fares roughly ¥40-90, 1.5-2 hours).
Train: Xingtai is served by Xingtai Railway Station (邢台站) for conventional services and Xingtai East (邢台东站) on the Beijing-Guangzhou high‑speed line for fast services. High‑speed trains on the HSR link Xingtai with Shijiazhuang and Beijing; short intercity trips (e.g., Shijiazhuang-Xingtai) are often 20-60 minutes with fares typically in the tens of yuan (second‑class HSR tickets commonly range from ~¥20-¥80 depending on distance). Book via China Railway or official ticket apps; stations have taxi ranks and local bus connections.
Bus: Long‑distance coaches depart from Xingtai’s main coach terminals (e.g., Xingtai Long‑distance Bus Station / 邢台客运站) with routes to nearby cities such as Shijiazhuang, Handan and Beijing. Fares vary by distance - local intercity coaches are often ¥30-¥120 - and travel times depend on route and traffic (expect 1.5-3+ hours for regional trips). Buses can be cheaper than taxis but are subject to highway traffic and fewer departures late at night.
How to Get Around Xingtai
Xingtai is easiest to navigate by rail and taxi: use Xingtai East for fast intercity travel and Didi/taxis for convenient local transfers. Local buses are very cheap but can be slow and confusing for non‑Chinese speakers, while walking works well for short city-center trips.
- High‑speed rail (CRH/G‑trains) (¥20-¥150) - Xingtai East (邢台东站) sits on the Beijing-Guangzhou high‑speed line and is the quickest way to reach or leave the city for medium‑distance trips. Trains are frequent to Shijiazhuang and farther afield to Beijing/Guangzhou; services are punctual and comfortable. Expect to book tickets in advance during holidays; arrive 20-30 minutes early to pass through security.
- Conventional rail (¥10-¥80) - Xingtai Railway Station handles slower conventional trains that are useful for cheaper, off‑peak travel and for routes not served by the HSR. Travel times are longer than high‑speed services but tickets can be significantly cheaper. Bring ID for ticket purchase and seat reservations at station counters or official apps.
- Long‑distance coach (¥30-¥120) - Intercity coaches run from Xingtai's main coach/terminal stations to regional cities; they are generally cheap and run on many routes not covered by frequent trains. Coaches are subject to road traffic and fewer departures at night, so allow extra time for connections. Buy tickets at the terminal or via official ticket counters/apps where available.
- Taxi / Didi (¥10-¥300) - Taxis and ride‑hailing (Didi) are convenient for door‑to‑door travel within Xingtai and for trips to/from nearby rail stations. Short inner‑city rides are inexpensive; expect higher fares for long intercity hops or airport transfers. Use official apps or insist on meters in taxis - negotiate only when meter won't be used.
- Local buses (¥1-¥5) - City buses cover Xingtai's neighborhoods and are the cheapest way to get around; routes can be numerous but signs and announcements may be in Chinese only. Buses are slow in peak traffic but useful for short local trips - carry small change or a transport card where accepted. Plan extra time during rush hours.
- Walking - Many central neighborhoods and markets in Xingtai are compact and walkable; walking is often the fastest way to get between nearby shops, restaurants and bus stops. Use walking for short trips and to explore streets that buses or taxis don't serve directly.
