Airport shuttle buses to Wuhan city cost around CNY 20-30 and take about 40-60 minutes; from Wuhan you can reach Xiaogan by train (see train card below) or by intercity coach.
Taxi / Ride-hailing from WUH: A direct taxi or ride-hail from Wuhan Tianhe to downtown Xiaogan typically costs roughly CNY 180-320 and takes about 60-90 minutes depending on traffic. This is the most direct option if you have luggage or arrive late, but it is considerably more expensive than transferring into Wuhan and taking a train or coach.
Train: Xiaogan is served by the city’s main railway facilities (commonly referred to as Xiaogan Railway Station) with frequent conventional and some higher-speed services linking to Wuhan and other Hubei cities. Typical travel time from Wuhan stations to Xiaogan is about 20-60 minutes depending on service; fares commonly range from CNY 10-60 depending on train type and seat class. Trains depart from Wuhan’s major stations (Wuhan, Hankou, Wuchang) - check schedules on official railway booking platforms or at stations.

Journey times are typically 60-90 minutes and fares are usually in the CNY 15-40 range. Local buses and taxis connect the Xiaogan coach station to neighborhoods and nearby towns.
How to Get Around Xiaogan
Xiaogan is easiest to navigate by a mix of trains for intercity travel and taxis/ride-hailing for local, door-to-door trips. Use trains or coaches to arrive from Wuhan, then rely on Didi/taxis or local buses for getting around town; walk short distances in the central area.
- Trains (Xiaogan Railway Station) (CNY 10-60) - Trains are the fastest, most reliable way to travel between Xiaogan and Wuhan or other regional cities. Services include conventional and some faster services; travel times to Wuhan are typically 20-60 minutes. Buy tickets at stations, via the official 12306.cn site/app, or through reputable third-party sellers; bring your passport for ID when collecting tickets.
- Intercity bus / coach (CNY 15-40) - Coaches run frequently between Wuhan and Xiaogan and are useful if you're near a coach terminal or if train schedules don't match yours. Expect journeys of roughly 60-90 minutes depending on traffic. Coaches are cheap and leave from major terminals in Wuhan; arrive early for busy times and keep small change for tickets.
- Taxis & ride-hailing (Didi) (CNY 10-320) - Taxis and Didi are convenient for door-to-door travel inside Xiaogan and for trips to/from stations. Short inner-city rides are inexpensive (usually CNY 10-30), while longer rides (for example from Wuhan airport) can be CNY 200-320. Use official taxis or the Didi app; confirm approximate fare with the driver or app before setting off.
- City buses (CNY 1-3) - Xiaogan has a network of local buses covering the city and suburbs; they are the cheapest option for getting around but can be slow and crowded at peak times. Fares are low (often a few yuan) and most drivers or routes have signage in Chinese only, so have your destination written in Chinese if you don't speak the language. Cash and local transit cards are commonly accepted on larger routes.
- Bicycle / shared bikes (CNY 1-3 per 30 min) - Dockless shared bikes are commonly available in many Chinese cities and are useful for short trips in Xiaogan's central areas. Rental is typically cheap and paid via mobile apps; bikes are handy for sightseeing or first/last-mile connections but watch for traffic and park responsibly. Availability can vary, so have a backup plan if you can't find one.
- Walking - Central Xiaogan is compact enough for walking between many shops, restaurants and markets; sidewalks are generally present though pedestrian crossings may be irregular.
