Workers Stadium is a large multi-purpose sports stadium in Beijing that opened in 1959 and serves as a venue for football, athletics and major public events. It is one of the city’s long-standing large-capacity stadiums.

The stadium is frequently used for professional football matches and has hosted domestic club fixtures, international friendlies and large concerts. Seating and field arrangements are adapted depending on the type of event being held.

Constructed in the late 1950s as part of sports infrastructure development in Beijing, the stadium has been renovated and modernized at intervals while remaining a prominent venue for large public gatherings. It has hosted both sporting and cultural events since its opening.

Workers Stadium lies in northeastern central Beijing, within Chaoyang District, and is well connected to the city’s public-transport network.

• Location and transport: Located in the Chaoyang district of Beijing, it is commonly called “Gongti” and is accessible by multiple subway lines and local bus routes.
• Events and usage: Used for football, athletics and large-scale concerts, with seating and facilities configured to host national and international events.

From Beijing city centre, take Subway Line 10 to Tuanjiehu Station (about 15-20 minutes from Dongzhimen) or Line 8 to Workers’ Stadium Station; both require a 5-15 minute walk depending on which entrance is used. Taxis and ride-hailing apps drop off directly at the plaza.

• Use subway Line 10 to Tuanjiehu or Line 8 to Dongzhimen and take a taxi for the last mile - Gongti is surrounded by back streets and entrances that confuse even locals.
• Avoid match nights unless a ticket is secured; the plaza outside fills with touts, street-food stalls, and drum-carrying fans.
• If visiting the stadium complex rather than a match, check schedules for the Workers' Indoor Arena - it hosts concerts and smaller sporting events that reveal a different, more intimate side of 'Gongti'.
