Willingdon Island is a man-made island in the harbour of Kochi (Cochin), in the state of Kerala, India, created to support port facilities and maritime trade. It forms part of the Port of Kochi complex and hosts docks, port administration and transport infrastructure.
The island contains quay walls, berths and transport links used for cargo handling and ferry services; it is a working maritime and logistics hub rather than a purely recreational destination. Several commercial and governmental maritime facilities are concentrated there, and the island is connected to the urban parts of Kochi by bridges and ferry routes.
Construction of the island was undertaken in the 20th century to expand Kochi’s harbour and enable deep-water berthing; it has since remained a central element of the port’s operational area.
