Wieringen is a locality in North Holland that was historically an island in the Wadden Sea and is now connected to the mainland following 20th-century land reclamation and engineering works. The area retains coastal character and low-lying Dutch polder landscape.

The main settlement is Hippolytushoef, which acts as the local centre for services and commerce. The former island is popular for cycling, birdwatching and exploring small coastal hamlets.

Wieringen’s island status changed through the construction of dikes and polders in the 20th century, which reworked the region’s coastal geography and linked the former island to the surrounding mainland.

The area lies off the northwestern Dutch coast in North Holland and is part of the municipality that administers this stretch of reclaimed and managed lowland.

Wieringen (now a peninsula in North Holland) is reached by road from the Dutch motorway network: drive north from Amsterdam on the A7 toward Den Oever and follow local roads onto the Wieringen area (driving distance from Amsterdam is about 90-110 km, roughly 1.5 hours depending on traffic). Several small towns and harbours around Wieringen have roadside parking; once on the peninsula most villages and seafronts are a short drive or a short walk from parking areas.
