Western Xia mausoleums are a cluster of imperial tombs of the Tangut Western Xia dynasty in present-day Ningxia, China, dating primarily to the 11th through 13th centuries. The site consists of multiple earthen mounds and surviving masonry elements that mark royal burials.
The complex includes nine major mausoleums and associated structures arranged along the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, and is valued for its insight into Tangut funerary architecture and imperial ritual. Visitors and researchers study the layout and construction techniques preserved at the site.
Constructed by rulers of the Western Xia state, the mausoleums served as royal burial places and ritual centers during the dynasty’s existence. Over centuries they have survived as earthen mounds and archaeological remains that have been subject to excavation and conservation.
Geographically the mausoleums stand northwest of the regional capital Yinchuan in Ningxia, set against the Helan Mountain range and accessible from regional roads and tour itineraries focused on northwest China heritage.
