Wenceslas Square is a long, boulevard-style square in Prague’s New Town that functions as a commercial, cultural and civic centre. It stretches from the National Museum at the upper end down toward the lower city and contains shops, hotels and offices.

The square features the prominent equestrian statue of Saint Wenceslas and the National Museum building, and it is a frequent site for public celebrations, demonstrations and urban life. Its linear form makes it more of a grand avenue than a traditional plaza, used as a principal urban thoroughfare.

Wenceslas Square has been the site of major historical events in Czech history and remains central to Prague’s modern civic and tourist activity. It lies in central Prague and is easily reached from the city’s public transport network and main historic districts.

Wenceslas Square (Václavské náměstí) is in the centre of Prague. The square is served directly by the metro: get off at Můstek (Lines A and B) or at Muzeum (Lines A and C) and you will be on or beside the square - walking from either station takes only a minute or two.

The square is in Prague’s city centre so no long drives or additional transit are normally required; most visitors arrive on foot from the Old Town or via the metro.

• Go early in the morning to see Wenceslas Square without the heavy tourist crowds and to photograph the National Museum façade and the Saint Wenceslas statue with minimal obstruction.
• Use the metro stations at either end of the square (Můstek at the lower end, Muzeum at the upper end) to enter exactly where you want to start your walk and avoid tram congestion along the length of the boulevard.
• Be aware that Wenceslas Square is a common site for public demonstrations and events-check local news or the city events calendar on the day of your visit if you want to avoid closures or large crowds.
