History & Culture of Wat Phra That Chang Kham#
Dating back to the 14th century, Wat Phra That Chang Kham is the second most important temple in downtown Nan after Wat Phra That Chae Haeng. Its murals, once painted over, have since been restored. The temple’s most notable feature is the gold-capped chedi behind the viharn, supported by a ring of elephant statues.
Inside. The viharn is unremarkable from the outside but very lush within, with red and black pillars leading to a huge, gleaming Buddha image on the altar. Next door, a bot contains a standing Buddha image in a glass casket, and the compound is often lively with schoolchildren, some of whom may want to practise their English with you.
