Washington Square (San Francisco)

Washington Square is a public park in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, best known as a neighborhood green space anchored by the nearby Saints Peter and Paul Church. The square functions as a compact civic lawn and social hub amid North Beach’s cafés and shops.

The park offers open lawn, benches and tree-shaded areas used for picnics, informal gatherings and occasional public events; the church facing the square is a frequent photo subject. Walkways connect the square to surrounding streets and to neighborhood businesses and attractions.

Geographically it sits in North Beach, a few blocks from the Embarcadero and roughly one mile south of Fisherman’s Wharf, making it easily reachable on foot from other central San Francisco waterfront destinations.
