Wadden Sea National Park

Wadden Sea National Park in southern Denmark protects part of the Wadden Sea tidal flats, barrier islands and coastal habitats along southwestern Jutland. The area is internationally important for migratory birds and marine life.

Visitors encounter broad intertidal flats, salt marshes and island coastlines that support large numbers of wading birds and resident grey seals. Popular activities include birdwatching, seal-watching, walking on marked coastal trails and guided mudflat walks during low tide. Several islands and tidal islands provide distinct visitor experiences and accessible beaches.

The Danish Wadden Sea has been recognised for its ecological importance through national protection measures and inclusion in wider international conservation frameworks. Management focuses on preserving the natural tidal dynamics and habitats that underpin the area’s biodiversity.

The park lies along the southwest coast of the Jutland peninsula and is accessible from towns such as Esbjerg and Ribe; it includes a chain of islands and tidal flats off the mainland coast.
