About Mandø#
Mandø is a small tidal island in the Danish Wadden Sea off the southwest coast of Jutland, administratively in the South Denmark region. It is part of the Wadden Sea ecosystem and is known for its tidal flats, birdlife and remote island character.
The island is connected to the mainland by a tidal causeway that is only usable at low tide and by specially timed local transport. The tidal flats and mudflats around the island are important habitats for waders and migratory birds.
Historically Mandø has been a farming and fishing community with buildings clustered in a small village; modern visitors come for birdwatching, guided walks and to experience the tidal landscape. Traditional thatched houses and a simple village layout remain visible.
