The Völklingen Ironworks is a preserved industrial complex in Saarland, Germany, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994 as an outstanding example of heavy industrial heritage.
Built and expanded during the 19th and 20th centuries, the ironworks was a major regional industrial facility; after closure of production it was conserved as a heritage site to preserve examples of industrial architecture and technology.
The complex sits in the town of Völklingen, in the Saarland region of southwestern Germany, along the Saar River in an industrialised area near the French border.

How to Get to Völklingen Ironworks #
Völklingen is a short drive west of Saarbrücken in Saarland, Germany (about 10-15 minutes by car). From Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof there are regular regional trains to Völklingen station; the ironworks are a 15-20 minute walk or a short local bus/taxi ride from the station. The site is well signed from the A620 motorway.

- Join an English‑language guided tour to go onto the industrial platforms and learn the process-self‑guided wandering misses much of the site's logic.
- Time the visit for late afternoon light when rusted steel and brick glow; the site's industrial geometry photographs astonishingly well.
- Wear a layer-interior spaces in the old blast furnaces can be cool and windy even on warm days.
