Villa Medici at Careggi Museum

A Renaissance suburban villa in Careggi just north of Florence, historically associated with the Medici family and dating to the 15th century.

The villa belonged to the Medici and was developed in the 15th century; it was a country seat used by members of the family and later altered over subsequent centuries. The estate has associations with Florentine intellectual and political networks of the Renaissance.

Sited on the Careggi hill immediately north of central Florence, it lies within the municipality of Florence in Tuscany, a few kilometres from the historic city centre.

Villa Medicea di Careggi sits on the Careggi hill just north of Florence. By car or taxi it’s about 5-7 km from central Florence (roughly 15-25 minutes depending on traffic) via Via Bolognese/Viale dei Mille; there is limited on‑site parking. Public buses from Florence serve the Careggi/hospital area (ask for stops at “Careggi” or “Ospedale Careggi”) and the villa is a short uphill walk (typically 10-20 minutes) from the nearest stops.
