Villa Emo Museum

Villa Emo is a mid-16th century Palladian villa in the Veneto region, built for the Venetian Emo family and recognized for its architectural clarity and agricultural complex. It is a well-preserved example of Andrea Palladio’s approach to country-house design.

Commissioned in the 1550s by the Emo family and attributed to Andrea Palladio, the villa remained an agricultural centre for the estate while also serving as a country residence. Decorative programs were executed soon after construction and the building has been preserved as a notable example of Renaissance villa architecture.

The villa sits near the village of Fanzolo in the comune of Vedelago, in the province of Treviso, Veneto, surrounded by agricultural land typical of the Venetian plain.

• Architectural significance: Designed by Andrea Palladio in the mid 16th century for the Emo family and noted as a paradigmatic example of Palladio’s rural villa design.
• Notable frescoes: Interior decorative cycles were painted by Giovanni Battista Zelotti and others in the 16th century, featuring allegorical and rustic scenes.

What to See#

• Main villa: The principal residential block designed as a harmonious, Palladian country house with a long central hall and classical proportions dating to the 16th century.
• Barchesse (farm wings): Two long agricultural wings, or barchesse, set symmetrically on either side of the main house and historically used for farm storage and estate administration.
• Frescoed interiors: A frescoed loggia and interior rooms decorated with illusionistic frescoes executed in the 16th century that illustrate allegorical and everyday themes.

Villa Emo is near the town of Fanzolo (municipality of Vedelago). The nearest larger transport hub is Treviso or Venice; from either city a regional train or bus to Treviso or Castelfranco Veneto followed by a taxi or local bus will take visitors close to the villa. Driving from Venice takes roughly 1-1.5 hours.
