About Vienna State Opera#
The Vienna State Opera (Wiener Staatsoper) is the major opera house on the Ringstraße in central Vienna, built in the mid-19th century and inaugurated in 1869 as one of the city’s principal cultural institutions.
The building contains a principal auditorium, foyers and rehearsal spaces and has been a centre for opera and ballet performance for over a century. The house suffered wartime damage and was repaired and reopened in the postwar period, remaining one of Europe’s busiest repertory opera houses.

Many tram lines run along the Ringstraße close to the Opera (stop names include Oper/Opernring); if driving, there is paid parking nearby but the site is most conveniently reached by U-Bahn or tram.
