How to Get to Vaiusu#
Vaiusu is close to Apia and is reached from Faleolo (APW) by road. Samoa has no rail; use taxis or the frequent local minibuses for short transfers between the airport, Apia and nearby villages.
Faleolo International Airport (APW): Faleolo serves Upolu and is the main international airport for Samoa. Vaiusu is on the north coast near Apia; from APW expect around 40-60 minutes by road depending on traffic. Taxis and airport shuttles operate from arrivals.
No other international airports nearby: APW is the primary gateway for air arrivals to the Apia area and surrounding villages like Vaiusu.
Train: There is no rail network in Samoa.
Bus / Minibus / Taxi: Public minibuses run regular routes around Upolu and between Apia and coastal villages; fares are inexpensive and travel times from Apia to Vaiusu are short (often 10-20 minutes from central Apia). Taxis are faster and available at the airport and in Apia.
How to Get Around Vaiusu#
Samoa has no rail; Vaiusu is best reached by road from Faleolo (APW) using taxis, hotel shuttles or public minibuses. Minibuses are the cheapest; taxis and car hire offer speed and convenience.
- Taxi (WST 30-60) - Taxis from Faleolo to Vaiusu are direct and take about 40-60 minutes depending on traffic; from central Apia the trip is much shorter (10-20 minutes). Agree the fare beforehand or use metered taxis where available.
- Public minibus (WST 2-6) - Shared minibuses operate throughout Upolu and are the cheapest way to travel between Apia and Vaiusu. They are frequent, informal and inexpensive; expect stops and variable schedules.
- Car hire (WST 120-300/day) - Hiring a car is useful for exploring Upolu beyond Apia and Vaiusu, giving flexibility to visit beaches and inland sites. Roads are generally in good condition on main routes but can be narrow.
- Airport shuttle / hotel transfer (WST 40-120) - Many hotels in Apia offer scheduled or on-request airport transfers - convenient and often competitively priced compared with taxis.
- Walking - Vaiusu village areas are pedestrian-friendly for short distances. For visiting other villages or beaches, a vehicle or minibus is recommended.

Vaiusu itself has only small village shops and corner stores for basic supplies. For a wider selection, markets and shops in nearby Apia provide fresh produce, tapa cloth, and souvenirs. Plan longer shopping trips into Apia where most supermarkets, markets and specialty shops are located.
Nightlife in Vaiusu#
Nightlife in Vaiusu is very limited; evenings tend to be low-key village life and family gatherings. For bars, live music and late-night options you’ll need to head into Apia, which is the island’s entertainment hub.
