Väike-Pakri is the smaller of the two Pakri islands off Estonia’s northwestern coast in Harju County, positioned near the Pakri Peninsula and the port town of Paldiski. The island is characterized by low limestone cliffs, coastal meadows and scattered remains of former farmsteads.
The island is largely uninhabited today and is visited for its coastal scenery, birdlife and visible traces of earlier settlement. Access is by private boat from the nearby mainland harbors; there are no regular ferry services.
Historically the Pakri islands were home to Estonian Swedish communities until the mid-20th century; the islands were taken over for military use during the Soviet period and the prewar inhabitants were displaced. Many buildings and landscape features from the prewar era remain as ruins.
Geographically Väike-Pakri sits off the Pakri Peninsula in the Baltic Sea, west of Paldiski and northwest of Tallinn along Estonia’s northern coast.
