Vaduz Castle is a medieval hilltop castle above the town of Vaduz and serves as the official residence of the Prince of Liechtenstein. The site dates to the medieval period and is a defining landmark for the capital.

Visitors primarily view the castle from the town below and along the Schlossberg approaches; it is not generally open for routine public tours because it functions as a private princely residence. The castle’s position provides sweeping views down the Rhine valley and over Vaduz.

The core of the castle has medieval origins with subsequent rebuilding and additions over centuries, resulting in the mix of defensive walls and residential features seen today. It has been associated with the ruling family for many centuries and remains a symbol of the principality.

The castle sits on the Schlossberg hill directly above Vaduz town centre, overlooking the Rhine plain in western Liechtenstein.

If arriving by car or bus, disembark in Vaduz centre (there are regional bus connections from nearby Swiss towns) and follow the signed pedestrian route up; parking and bus stops are at the base of the hill.

• Walk up from the town centre via the marked trail (about 20-30 minutes) in the cooler morning or late afternoon hours for clearer views over the Rhine valley and the town below.
• Be respectful of private property and follow signage; many visitors miss several excellent photo vantage points along the vineyard paths and lower chapel areas rather than just the main forecourt.
