Uutela is a coastal recreational and nature area in eastern Helsinki, Finland, known for its seaside trails, rocky shoreline and small harbours. It is managed as part of the city’s network of outdoor spaces and serves as a local destination for hiking and outdoor recreation.
Visitors use marked walking paths that run along the shore and through wooded areas, plus picnic spots and a small marina area. The landscape includes rocky outcrops, coastal vegetation and remnants of historic summer cottages and small-scale rural buildings.
Originally used for rural and leisure purposes, Uutela has been incorporated into Helsinki’s urban park system and is managed to provide public access to coastal nature while protecting habitats.
Uutela is located in eastern Helsinki near the Vuosaari district, roughly 8-12 kilometres east of the city centre, and is reachable by public transport and local roads.

How to Get to Uutela #
Uutela is reached from Helsinki city center by tram 8 to Herttoniemi followed by a 20-30 minute walk, or by bus lines that serve the Uutelantie area. In summer there are also occasional ferries from the inner archipelago to landing spots near the park.
Tips for Visiting Uutela #
- Use the eastern entrance from Herttoniemi to avoid the busiest parking spots near the main ferry docks.
- Take the coastal path toward the headland for better views of the sea and passing ferries-early morning light is excellent.
- Summer events in the park can draw locals-check Helsinki city event pages for concerts or guided walks.
