Most international travelers arrive via Carrasco General Cesáreo L. Berisso International Airport (MVD), the country’s primary gateway and its only major airport, handling high volumes of traffic. It is the main air entry point for reaching Montevideo and works well as a starting base for trips to the capital’s rambla and old city.
Beyond MVD, two other airports have scheduled commercial service. Capitan Corbeta CA Curbelo International Airport (PDP) is the key airport for Punta del Este, supporting access to the Maldonado coast of beach resorts such as Punta del Este and nearby towns like Piriápolis. Pres. Gral. Óscar D. Gestido Binational Airport (RVY) adds a regional option tied to Rivera.
With only three airports offering scheduled commercial flights, domestic flying is limited and often complements other entry routes, including arriving by ferry from Buenos Aires to Colonia del Sacramento, then continuing onward through Uruguay’s regions and cities.
