How to Get to Ürgüp#
Ürgüp is served by two airports: Nevşehir Kapadokya (NAV) for short transfers and Kayseri (ASR) for more flight options; onward travel is by shuttle, dolmuş or taxi. There is no direct train to Ürgüp-road links are the norm for reaching Cappadocia.
Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV): Nevşehir Kapadokya is the closest airport to Ürgüp (about 35-45 km). Shuttle buses and private transfers from NAV to Ürgüp typically take 30-45 minutes; shared shuttle fares are commonly 150-300 TRY per person and private transfers cost more depending on group size.
Kayseri Erkilet Airport (ASR): Kayseri is a larger airport with more frequent flights (about 70-90 km from Ürgüp). Shuttle or private transfer from Kayseri takes about 60-90 minutes; shared shuttle fares usually range 200-400 TRY while private transfers are priced higher.
Train: There is no direct rail service to Ürgüp; the nearest long-distance rail services stop in Kayseri, from where you take road transport to the Cappadocia towns.
Bus: Intercity buses serve Nevşehir and Göreme areas from major Turkish cities; from Nevşehir bus station you can take local minibuses (dolmuş) or short taxi rides to Ürgüp-journeys of 20-40 minutes and low single fares. Long-distance buses to Nevşehir or Göreme are frequent from Ankara and Istanbul.
How to Get Around Ürgüp#
Ürgüp is most practically reached by shuttle or private transfer from Nevşehir (NAV) or Kayseri (ASR); buses to Nevşehir plus short local connections also work well. Once here, dolmuş, taxis or a rental car are the best ways to explore Cappadocia’s widespread sites.
- Airport shuttle / private transfer (150-450 TRY (shared / private)) - Shuttle buses and pre-booked private transfers from NAV or ASR are the most common ways to reach Ürgüp. Shared shuttles are economical and drop you at your hotel, while private transfers offer door‑to‑door convenience-book in advance during high season.
- Intercity bus (100-300 TRY (long-distance) / 10-50 TRY (local dolmuş)) - Long-distance coaches run from Ankara, Istanbul and other cities to Nevşehir or Göreme; these are comfortable and economical for longer journeys. From the Nevşehir bus station you can take a short dolmuş or taxi to Ürgüp-expect low local fares for the last leg.
- Dolmuş / local minibus (10-40 TRY) - Local minibuses (dolmuş) connect Ürgüp with nearby towns like Nevşehir and Göreme; they are frequent, cheap and convenient for short hops. They can be crowded at peak times but are the most budget-friendly local option.
- Taxi (150-800 TRY depending on distance) - Taxis are plentiful for airport transfers, early/late arrivals and flexible sightseeing around Cappadocia. For longer transfers (from airports) expect substantially higher costs than shared shuttles-confirm prices before departure or use hotel-arranged transfers.
- Car / Rental (600-1,200 TRY/day (approx.)) - Hiring a car is popular for independent exploration of Cappadocia’s dispersed sites; roads are suitable and signposted to major attractions. Be mindful of parking at popular viewpoints and seasonal demand for rentals.
- Walking - Ürgüp town centre and nearby valleys are easily explored on foot for short visits; some attractions require driving or joining a tour. Walking is ideal for village streets, cafés and short local walks between sights.
