The Umschlagplatz is the historical site in Warsaw where Jews from the Warsaw Ghetto were assembled for deportation to extermination camps, most notably Treblinka, during the Second World War. The location is now an official memorial to those events.

Today a commemorative monument and plaques mark the square and are visited for remembrance and education; inscriptions and names recall the victims and the scale of the deportations. The site forms part of the broader network of World War II and Holocaust memorials in the city.

During 1942 and into 1943 the square functioned as the departure point organized by occupying authorities for mass transports from the ghetto. After the war the place became a focus for memorialisation and annual commemorative events.

The Umschlagplatz lies within central Warsaw on the edge of the former Warsaw Ghetto area; it is close to contemporary city streets and within walking distance of several museums and other memorials dedicated to Jewish Warsaw.

Andersa (typically 5-15 minutes depending on traffic). Local buses and trams serve the Muranów/Stawki area - expect a short walk (several minutes) from the nearest stop to the monument.

• Visit early morning or late afternoon for a quieter, more reflective experience-tours and school groups are most common around midday.
• Approach the memorial from Stawki Street and allow time to read the onsite plaques; the POLIN Museum (a short walk away) provides essential historical context and makes a meaningful combination.
• Be mindful that this is a solemn Holocaust memorial: keep noise low and plan for a short, respectful visit rather than sightseeing photography-heavy stops.
