Uganda National Mosque

Uganda National Mosque sits on Kibuli Hill in Kampala and is one of the largest mosque complexes in the region. It is a prominent religious and civic building in the city skyline and includes a large main prayer hall and a tall minaret with viewing access.

The complex is used for regular Muslim worship and community functions; the minaret offers panoramic views over Kampala and Visitor access is possible outside of prayer times subject to local rules. Tourists should observe appropriate dress and footwear protocols when entering the mosque.

Construction began with Libyan financial and technical support and the project was completed and brought into use in the 2000s, after which control rested with Ugandan Islamic authorities. The building has since served both as a place of worship and as a national landmark.

The mosque occupies a hilltop site in central Kampala’s Kibuli neighborhood, giving it extensive visibility across the city; it is a short drive from Kampala’s central business district.
