Muang Xay (Oudomxay) is served by a small regional airport (ODY) with short flights from Vientiane and occasional services from Luang Prabang. Overland buses and shared minivans on Route 13 connect Muang Xay with other northern Lao towns when flights aren't available.

By Air

Oudomxay Airport / Muang Xay Airport (ODY): Muang Xay (Oudomxay) is served by small regional flights (ODY) from Vientiane and sometimes Luang Prabang; flight time from Vientiane is about 45-60 minutes. From the airport to Muang Xay town centre taxis or tuk‑tuks take around 5-15 minutes.

Luang Prabang International Airport (LPQ): Many travellers reach Muang Xay via Luang Prabang (LPQ) and then travel overland; Luang Prabang-Muang Xay by road is a long journey (6-10+ hours) by bus or minivan but is an alternative when direct flights are unavailable.
