Tyrifjorden

Tyrifjorden is a large freshwater lake in southeastern Norway’s Buskerud area, forming a notable inland water body west of the Oslo region. It is an important regional feature for recreation and local transport corridors.

Calm bays, islands and shoreline areas attract boating, fishing and lakeside leisure activity during the warmer months. Several smaller arms and fjord-like inlets extend from the main body of water and provide sheltered waters for local communities.

The lake has long supported local settlements and transport links in the surrounding districts; communities on its shores developed around fishing, timber and later recreational use. Infrastructure and towns at the lake’s edges grew with regional economic development.

Located in Buskerud (part of the Viken area) west of the Oslofjord region, Tyrifjorden is surrounded by agricultural land, forests and small towns, with transport connections to larger nearby population centers.
