Two Ocean Lake is a natural lake located inside Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming. It is one of several backcountry lakes within the park and is known for forested shoreline and wildlife viewing.
A well-used loop trail runs near the lake, providing opportunities for day hiking, birdwatching, and shoreline paddling where allowed. The quiet shoreline and surrounding mixed forest make it a common spot for spotting waterfowl, moose, and other wildlife.
The basin that holds Two Ocean Lake was shaped by Pleistocene glacial activity like many lakes in the Teton region. It has been managed as part of Grand Teton National Park since the park expanded to include much of the Jackson Hole valley and surrounding lands.
Situated within Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming, the lake lies in the park’s backcountry amid forested terrain and is accessed via park trails and unpaved roads. The nearest well-known gateway community is Jackson, Wyoming, which serves as the regional access point for the park.
How to Get to Two Ocean Lake #
Two Ocean Lake is inside Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming. From Jackson, drive north into the park on U.S. Highway 26/89/191; follow park signage to the Two Ocean Lake parking area and trailhead, from which the lakeshore and loop trail are a short walk. Public transit in the park is seasonal; most visitors reach the lake by private car or park shuttle where available.
Tips for Visiting Two Ocean Lake #
- Do the full Two Ocean Lake Loop (the maintained trail is roughly 6-7 miles) early in the morning when winds are usually light - that's when you're most likely to see reflected peaks and wildlife along the shoreline.
- Two Ocean Lake is quieter than Jenny and String Lake; if you want solitude, avoid mid-day weekends and aim for weekdays or late afternoon when day-trippers concentrate at the more famous lakes.
