Turkey Run State Park is a state park in Parke County, Indiana, created in 1916 as one of the state’s earliest protected parks. It is known for its exposed sandstone ravines and scenic river corridor.

The park’s central feature is the narrow canyon carved by Sugar Creek, with sheer sandstone walls, carved steps and streamside trails that draw hikers and photographers. Canoeing and tubing on Sugar Creek are popular in summer, and there are picnic areas and a historic suspension bridge that provide viewpoints across the gorge.

The park was established in 1916 to protect the area’s scenic sandstone gorges and natural features and has since been managed for recreation and conservation. Facilities such as a nature center and trails were developed to support visitors while preserving the canyon environment.

The park sits in western Indiana’s Parke County near the town of Marshall, roughly west of Indianapolis, and is accessed from local county roads and state routes.

  • Water activities: Canoeing and tubing are common on the park's waterway during warmer months; water levels vary with rainfall so check conditions before launching.
  • Trails and terrain: Trails range from short walks to multi-mile hikes that include stairs and uneven sandstone steps; sturdy footwear is recommended.

  • Sugar Creek Gorge: A deep sandstone gorge cut by Sugar Creek with narrow rock canyons, carved steps and cliff-top trails that are the park's primary landscape attraction.

  • Nature Center: An on-site nature centre offering interpretive displays about the park's geology, plants and animals and serving as the main visitor information point.
