How to Get to Tuan Chau Island #

Tuan Chau Island is connected to Ha Long city by a causeway and is the main marina/arrival point for many Ha Long Bay cruises. From Ha Long’s Bai Chay area it’s a short taxi or local bus ride across the causeway to Tuan Chau Marina. From Hanoi it’s commonly reached by road (approximately 150-170 km east via National Route QL18/Highway 18), with many tour operators and shuttle buses running direct to Tuan Chau.

Tips for Visiting Tuan Chau Island #

  • If you're using Tuan Chau as a cruise boarding point for Ha Long Bay, arrive at the marina at least 45-60 minutes before departure - the island's cruise piers and check-in desks can be spread out.
  • If you're just visiting the island, go early morning or late afternoon to avoid day-trip crowds and to enjoy the seaside promenade and viewpoints with cooler temperatures and softer light.
  • Check which pier your boat uses in advance - several operators use Tuan Chau's different docks, so confirming the exact boarding point saves a last-minute dash between terminals.
