How to Get to Troyan
Troyan is most practically reached by bus or car from Sofia; the scenic narrow-gauge Septemvri-Troyan railway exists but has limited services. The town's bus and train connections link it to Lovech, Sofia and other Bulgarian centres.
Sofia Airport (SOF): Sofia is the primary international airport used to reach Troyan (about 150-170 km by road). From Sofia you can travel by bus or rent a car for the roughly 2-3 hour drive; bus fares are typically BGN 10-20 depending on service and route.
Plovdiv Airport (PDV): Plovdiv is further away and less convenient than Sofia for most travellers to Troyan.
Train: Troyan is the terminus of the narrow-gauge Septemvri-Troyan railway (a scenic route) with connections via Septemvri to the national rail network; services are seasonal and slower but very scenic. Timetables are limited; check Bulgarian State Railways (BDZ) for exact times.
Bus: Regular intercity buses run from Sofia and Lovech to Troyan and are generally faster and more frequent than the narrow-gauge train for practical travel. Bus journeys from Sofia take around 2-3 hours with fares typically BGN 10-20.
