How to Get to Trongsa
Jakar (Bumthang) is served by Bathpalathang/Bumthang Airport for domestic flights; most international visitors arrive via Paro and then travel onward by domestic flight or road. There is no rail service; road trips across central Bhutan can be long but scenic.
Bathpalathang Airport (Bumthang) (BUT): Jakar (Bumthang) is served by Bumthang’s Bathpalathang Airport (often referred to as Bumthang Airport). Flights are domestic and limited; road transfer from the airstrip to Jakar town is usually 10-30 minutes depending on landing site and conditions.
Paro Airport (PBH): International arrivals will typically fly into Paro and continue by road or domestic connection to Bumthang; overland travel from Paro to Jakar is a long multi-hour journey across central Bhutan.
Train: Bhutan does not have a passenger rail network; nearest Indian railheads require long road transfers to enter Bhutan.
Bus: Buses and shared taxis connect Jakar with other districts like Trongsa and central towns. Road travel in central Bhutan involves mountain passes and can take several hours between regions; schedules are reasonably regular but can change with weather.
How to Get Around Trongsa #
Trongsa’s compact centre is easy to walk and most attractions (including the dzong) are within short distance. For travel into the surrounding countryside or to other districts, taxis and hired cars are the norm; public buses exist but run infrequently.
