Treasury Islands Islands

The Treasury Islands are a small group in the Western Province of the Solomon Islands, dominated by the islands of Mono and Stirling. They are known for their World War II history and coral-fringed shores.

Visitors see coastal villages on Mono, wartime relics and remnants of an airstrip on Stirling, and coral reefs suitable for snorkeling and diving. The islands are small, remote and primarily accessed by regional boat services.

The Treasury Islands were the scene of military operations during the Solomon Islands campaign of World War II and were developed by Allied forces for naval and air operations, leaving visible wartime infrastructure and wrecks.

The group lies in the western part of the Solomon Islands nation, to the northwest of Guadalcanal and near Bougainville, within the island-strewn waters of the southwest Pacific.

• Plan travel for the Solomon Islands dry season (roughly May-October) when sea conditions are calmer for small boat transfers and diving around Treasury Islands' wartime wreck sites.
• Confirm and arrange boat transfers and any local accommodation well in advance with operators in Gizo or Honiara-the islands have very limited facilities and depend on charter boats and local schedules.
