Wandering Jana
A travel blog by Jana exploring archaeology, history and cultural sites across Europe and beyond.
About Wandering Jana
Wandering Jana is the personal travel blog of Jana, an archaeology and history enthusiast who writes first person travel narratives drawn from extensive backpacking, fieldwork and road trips. She has lived in the United Kingdom, worked on archaeological digs, driven much of Route 66 and travelled widely across Europe and the United States. The site has been active since at least 2017 and includes more than 490 posts in its sitemap, with new pieces published regularly. Jana offers detailed guides to monuments, medieval sites and UNESCO locations, and posts are photo rich, principally using her own images to illustrate sites and excavations.
If you like guided tours narrated by an archaeologist, this is your kind of blog. Jana writes with the curious, footloose energy of someone who has spent months tramping through ruins and museums, and her voice is both knowledgeable and conversational as in the Monastery of Alcobaça post. The writing leans deep into history and material culture, and the posts are heavily illustrated - the Alcobaça article alone includes dozens of photos and many internal links for further reading. We find the site most valuable for history minded travellers planning museum, monastery and UNESCO visits, and for anyone who enjoys long, well sourced travel reads.
