About The Midnight Blue Elephant
The Midnight Blue Elephant is the personal travel blog of Annika Ziehen, a divemaster who has lived in New York and South Africa and now travels the world solo. She chooses destinations for great dive sites and memorable local cuisine, and she has written a book about solo travel. The site has been active since at least 2015 and contains more than 370 posts, with several new pieces published each month. The blog offers travel diaries, destination and foodie guides, practical how-tos and diving tales, and posts are illustrated with many original photos with photo credits.
Equal parts scuba log and restaurant review, this blog reads like a well packed carry-on bag full of stories. We enjoy Annika's warm, candid voice in long, picture rich posts such as her recent G Adventures Cambodia trip report, which blends history, practical tips and personal reflection. The site is especially strong on food guides to places like Ubud and Canggu, plus hands-on transport and festival guides for Southeast Asia. It is very active, publishing several pieces a week and hosting hundreds of posts, so there is always a fresh diary, dive report or itinerary to read when we need travel inspiration.
