Legal Nomads
Longform travel and food writing, plus gluten-free guides and resources.
About Legal Nomads
Legal Nomads is Jodi Ettenberg's personal travel site, started in 2008 to chronicle a one-year sabbatical that became a career. Over more than 330 posts since 2008, Jodi built an award-winning archive of travel narratives, food writing, and practical resources for travellers with celiac disease, including translation cards and gluten free guides. The site has been featured in major outlets and sold over 29,000 translation cards in dozens of languages. While Jodi has been grounded by chronic illness in recent years, she continues to update the resource pages and publish long personal essays, and posts are richly illustrated with her own photography.
It reads like a long letter from a well-travelled friend, precise about food and drenched in memory. Jodi's voice in the excerpt is intimate, reflective and detail-rich, the kind of writing that rewards readers who want narrative depth rather than quick tips. The site is indispensable if you travel gluten free or enjoy long-form travel memoirs tied to food and place, and the translation cards and gluten free guides are standout, practical work. Activity is slow these days, but when she publishes it is substantial and photographed by Jodi herself, often mixing travel, health updates and career reflections in generous essays.
