How to Get to Tongchuanshi

Tongchuan (Tongchuanshi) is easiest reached via Xi'an Xianyang International Airport (XIY) or by rail from Xi'an. High-speed trains to Tongchuan North and regular intercity coaches provide the most reliable connections from Xi'an; expect about 30-90 minutes travel time by rail or coach from Xi'an depending on service.

By Air

Xi’an Xianyang International Airport (XIY): Xi’an Xianyang is the nearest major airport serving Tongchuan. From XIY you can take an airport bus or metro/airport express into Xi’an city (about CNY 25-35, 30-60 minutes) and then transfer to a high-speed train from Xi’an North to Tongchuan North (see train details below). A direct taxi or ride-hail from XIY to central Tongchuan takes roughly 1.5-2 hours and typically costs around CNY 300-450 depending on traffic.

Yan’an Nanniwan / other regional airports: There are no major commercial airports in Tongchuan itself; the nearest alternative regional airports (for some routes) are considerably farther and uncommon for regular service to Tongchuan. If arriving at a regional airport you will generally transfer via Xi’an by bus, taxi or rail (times and prices vary widely by airport).

By Train & Bus

Train: Tongchuan is served by rail. High-speed services call at Tongchuan North (铜川北站) on the Xi’an-Yan’an corridor; trains from Xi’an North to Tongchuan North typically take around 30-60 minutes with second-class fares commonly in the CNY 25-60 range depending on service. Conventional trains also serve Tongchuan railway station (铜川站) on slower routes; these take longer (often 1.5-3 hours from Xi’an) with lower fares (roughly CNY 10-30).

Bus: Regular long-distance coaches run between Xi’an and Tongchuan from Xi’an coach stations (e.g., major intercity coach hubs). Journey times are usually around 1.5-2.5 hours depending on route and traffic; typical fares are in the CNY 40-80 range.
