How to Get to Timia
Timia is a remote oasis village in the Aïr Mountains of Agadez Region; there is no regular public transport. Access is by road from the regional capital Agadez over unpaved desert tracks, so reach is normally by 4x4 vehicle - arrange a local driver or an organized excursion in Agadez. Expect rough, unpaved roads and a short walk from the track into the village.
Tips for Visiting Timia
- Visit Timia in the cooler early morning to make the most of the valley light and avoid the midday Sahara heat when travel on dirt roads becomes slow and dusty.
- Plan your visit for shortly after the rainy season (late summer) if you want to see the oasis green and seasonal waterfalls and to catch the orchards in fruit-bearing condition.
- Arrange an overland transfer and a local Tuareg or Agadez-based guide/driver from Agadez in advance-roads into the Aïr are rough and local drivers know the best routes, water points and village contacts.
