Tianmu Mountain (Tianmu Shan) is a prominent mountain massif in western Zhejiang province near Hangzhou, known for its biodiversity and forested peaks. The range is notable for its two main summits and well-preserved natural areas.
The massif includes two principal peaks commonly referred to as East and West Tianmu; West Tianmu reaches roughly 1,506 metres in elevation. The area features old-growth forest, rare tree species, waterfalls and a network of hiking trails used by visitors.
Tianmu Mountain has been designated for nature conservation and is managed as a protected reserve to preserve its ecological values and endemic species. Facilities for visitors include trailheads, viewing platforms and interpretive signage in the reserve.
The mountain lies in Lin’an District, northwest of Hangzhou in Zhejiang province, and is reachable by road from Hangzhou as a day-trip destination for nature tourism.

Tianmu Mountain is reached from Hangzhou’s city center by car or coach to Lin’an District (approximately 1-1.5 hours). Local buses and private taxis serve the scenic-area entrances; on-site shuttles and cable cars connect higher trailheads.

- Start early to avoid weekend crowds from Hangzhou and to get clearer mountain light.
- Take the cable car to higher slopes to save time and to see the mixed conifer-broadleaf forest bands.
- Visit local tea plantations in the lower slopes - the area's microclimate produces distinctive teas.
