Tianchi (Heavenly Lake) in Xinjiang is an alpine lake in the Bogda Shan subrange of the Tianshan mountains, northeast of Ürümqi. The lake occupies a glacial basin and is noted for clear water framed by steep, snow-capped peaks.
The setting is a popular summer destination for day tours and short treks, with boat trips on the lake and lakeshore viewpoints that face high ridges and glaciers in the Bogda Shan. The surrounding peaks exceed 4,000 metres and provide a dramatic alpine backdrop.
The lake and nearby slopes were carved and shaped by glacial action during Quaternary glaciation, and the area has long been used for pastoral grazing and seasonal travel before modern road access opened. In modern times it is managed as a scenic area with facilities for visitors.
The lake is located in the eastern Tianshan, in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, northeast of the regional capital Ürümqi and near the county-level city of Fukang.

It is commonly visited on day trips from Ürümqi by tourist coach or private car; the drive takes around two hours (roughly 100-120 km depending on the exact start point). - Use the official Heavenly Lake Scenic Area entrance so you can access the park shuttle system and the signed walks to the main viewpoints.
- Check seasonal access before you go-winter and spring snow can affect road and lift operations, and some facilities are closed in the cold season.
- Walk a short way beyond the main shore viewpoint where footpaths are quieter and offer different perspectives of the lake and surrounding peaks.
