How to Get to Thuwal

Thuwal is most often accessed from Jeddah via road after flying into King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). Public coach services exist but are limited, so private transfers or KAUST shuttles are the most convenient options.

By Air

King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED): Jeddah’s JED is the main international airport used to reach Thuwal and KAUST. Road transfer from JED to Thuwal is roughly 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic (≈80-100 km); taxis and private transfers are common. Expect taxi fares in the range of SAR 200-400 for the trip.

King Fahd International (DMM) / other regional airports: These airports are much farther away; Jeddah remains the most practical gateway for Thuwal and the Red Sea coast.

By Train & Bus

Train: Saudi Arabia’s north-south and Haramain high-speed rail networks currently do not serve Thuwal directly; the Haramain line links Jeddah, Mecca and Medina but requires further road travel to reach Thuwal.

Bus / coach: SAPTCO coaches and private long‑distance buses operate along the Red Sea coast. For KAUST and Thuwal, scheduled public services are limited-many visitors use taxis, private transfers, or KAUST-arranged shuttles from Jeddah and Jeddah airport.
