Teuri Island

Teuri Island (Teuri-jima) is a small island off the west coast of Hokkaido noted for its large seabird colonies and coastal habitats. It is administered from Haboro in Hokkaido Prefecture.

The island hosts dense seabird colonies during the breeding season, including gulls, auklets and other coastal species, and is a well-known destination for birdwatching and nature observation. Simple walking trails and observation points allow access to key viewing sites.

Teuri has long been used by local fishing communities and later developed modestly for nature-focused tourism and conservation. Protective measures have been established to conserve breeding seabird populations.

Teuri sits in the Sea of Japan off Haboro on Hokkaido’s west coast and is reached by local ferry services from the mainland town.
