Tetnuldi Mountain

Tetnuldi is a high peak in the Greater Caucasus located in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of Georgia, rising to 4,858 meters. It is a prominent mountain in Svaneti and a major objective for alpine climbers and skiers.

The mountain offers long glaciated slopes and steep ridges; its upper flanks support permanent snow and glacier ice. There is a developed ski area on its lower slopes and backcountry skiing is a major draw in winter and spring.

Tetnuldi has been a focus of mountaineering and, more recently, recreational ski development, increasing visitor infrastructure in the valley below. Routes vary from technical alpine climbs to high-altitude ski lines depending on season and conditions.

The peak sits in northwestern Georgia, within Svaneti, and is approached via the regional center of Mestia and surrounding mountain communities. The mountain dominates local views and forms part of the high Greater Caucasus landscape.

Tetnuldi (the mountain and nearby ski area) is accessed from the Svaneti town of Mestia, which is the regional base for visitors. From Mestia you can reach trailheads, lodges and the Tetnuldi ski lift by local roads and short drives or organized transfers; many people base themselves in Mestia and travel by car, taxi or minibus to reach the mountain. Mountain access then continues on foot, by ski lift (in season) or on mountain tracks - road and weather conditions can be variable, so plan accordingly.

• Use Mestia as your operational base for Tetnuldi - most access, guides and vehicle hires originate there rather than from remote villages.
• Choose your season for your activity: summer and early morning offer the clearest trekking and alpine views, while winter is for the ski season (check local lift and road conditions before you go).
• Arrange local transport or a guide with a high-clearance vehicle; mountain roads and weather can change quickly and independent access beyond Mestia is often rough.
