How to Get to Tengchong

Tengchong is best reached by regional flight to Tengchong Tuofeng Airport (TCZ) or by long-distance bus from Kunming/Baoshan. Once there, local buses and taxis make getting around straightforward for short distances.

By Air

Tengchong Tuofeng Airport (TCZ): Tengchong’s regional airport handles flights from Kunming and other Yunnan cities. From the airport to Tengchong town the drive is about 30-40 minutes; airport shuttle buses cost around CNY 15-30 and taxis typically cost CNY 40-100 depending on luggage and exact drop-off.

Kunming Changshui International Airport (KMG): For more international connections fly into Kunming and take a domestic flight to Tengchong (about 1 hour) or a long-distance bus (6-8 hours) - the bus is cheaper but much longer (bus fares roughly CNY 100-200).

By Train & Bus

Train: There is currently no major high‑speed rail directly into Tengchong; the nearest larger rail hubs are in Baoshan or Kunming, from which you transfer by bus or car. Check China Railway for routes to nearby cities.

Bus: Long-distance buses run to Tengchong from Kunming, Baoshan and other Yunnan centres. Bus travel from Kunming typically takes around 6-8 hours with fares roughly CNY 100-200; buses from Baoshan are shorter and cheaper. Local shuttle buses and taxis connect the Tengchong bus station with town and tourist sites.

How to Get Around Tengchong #

Tengchong’s Old Town and tourist areas are very walkable, with many sights clustered close together. Short taxi rides and local buses serve longer distances; many visitors also rent bicycles or e-bikes for flexibility. Taxis are affordable for short hops-ask hotels for recommended drivers. Heshun Ancient Town (nearby) can be reached by short bus or taxi rides.
