Temple of Heracles

The Temple of Heracles is an ancient Greek temple ruin located in the Valle dei Templi near Agrigento in Sicily, and is one of the site’s older surviving structures dating to the Archaic period. It is a component of the larger archaeological park that preserves multiple Doric temples.

The temple appears as a partly preserved set of stone foundations and standing elements among a sequence of classical ruins within the valley. The archaeological park provides walkways and interpretive signage enabling visitors to view the temple in the context of neighbouring monuments.

Constructed in the Archaic period, the temple fell into ruin over the classical and later eras; it has been subject to excavation and consolidation since the 18th and 19th centuries. It is recognized as part of the Valle dei Templi ensemble, which preserves Agrigento’s ancient Greek urban sanctuary.

The remains lie on the western sector of the Valley of the Temples outside the modern town of Agrigento on Sicily’s southern coast.
