How to Get to Temara#
Temara is a coastal suburb just south of Rabat; most visitors arrive via Rabat-Salé Airport (RBA) or by rail through Rabat and Temara stations on the ONCF network. Many international flights use Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport (CMN), with onward bus or train connections into Rabat and then a short hop to Temara.
Rabat-Salé Airport (RBA): Rabat-Salé is the closest airport to Temara (about 15-25 km). From RBA you can take a taxi direct to Temara (≈25-40 minutes depending on traffic); expect roughly an approximate fare in the low hundreds of Moroccan dirhams for a private taxi, or you can take public buses/shuttles into central Rabat and then transfer to an ONCF train or a local petit taxi to reach Temara (bus/shuttle into Rabat typically takes 20-35 minutes).
Mohammed V International Airport (CMN): Casablanca’s Mohammed V is the larger international hub and is about 75-90 km from Temara. Direct coach services (Supratours/CTM)connect the airport to Rabat and the Rabat bus station (roughly 60-90 minutes); from Rabat you can take an ONCF train or local taxi to Temara (additional 10-20 minutes). A direct taxi from CMN to Temara is faster door-to-door but considerably more expensive and takes about 60-90 minutes depending on traffic.
Train: Temara is on ONCF’s Rabat-Casablanca rail corridor and is served by regular suburban/intercity trains; the station is called Témara (sometimes spelled Temara). Trains between Rabat-Ville or Rabat-Agdal and Témara are short hops (typically about 10-20 minutes), making the train one of the easiest ways to reach the town from central Rabat or Casablanca (change at Rabat or Casablanca Voyageurs if coming from farther afield).
Bus: Intercity bus operators such as CTM and Supratours serve Rabat from across Morocco and from Casablanca’s airport; services arrive at Rabat’s main bus stops/terminals. From those terminals you can reach Temara by a short local bus, grand taxi, or a brief ONCF train ride. Local urban buses and shared taxis (“petit” and “grand” taxis) cover Temara and the Rabat suburbs for short trips within the metro area.
How to Get Around Temara#
Temara is easiest to navigate by short ONCF train hops and local petit taxis - trains handle the longer, traffic-prone stretches while taxis and local buses cover first/last-mile connections. If you’re based in Temara and plan day trips, a car adds flexibility; for city-to-city travel stick to ONCF and the major coach operators for reliability.
- ONCF regional trains (≈5-15 MAD) - The regional ONCF trains between Rabat and Casablanca stop at Témara station and are the most reliable way to cover the corridor quickly and cheaply. Trains from Rabat-Ville or Rabat-Agdal take about 10-20 minutes to Temara; expect simple 2nd-class rolling stock and frequent departures during the day. Good option if you want to avoid traffic and park-and-ride hassles.
- Petit taxis (urban) (≈6-30 MAD) - Petit taxis operate inside Temara and the Rabat metro area and are the best option for short trips, late-night rides, and first/last-mile connections from train stations. They run on meters in Rabat/Temara (flag fares are inexpensive for short hops); always confirm the meter is used or agree a fare in advance if the driver prefers a fixed rate. They’re cheap and ubiquitous but can be cramped during peak hours.
- Grand taxis (shared/intercity) (≈10-50 MAD) - Grand taxis are shared vehicles that run fixed routes between suburbs and nearby towns (useful for trips that aren’t covered by trains or local buses). They leave when full, are inexpensive per seat, and are common for cross-suburban trips; they can be slower and less comfortable than a private taxi but unbeatable value for short intercity hops.
- Intercity buses (CTM / Supratours) (varies (short hops inexpensive; longer routes tens to hundreds of MAD)) - CTM and Supratours connect Temara/Rabat with Morocco’s longer-distance routes and Casablanca airport; these are comfortable coaches with reserved seating and straightforward schedules. Buses serve Rabat’s terminals - from there use a short train or taxi to Temara. Good for long-distance arrivals and if you need luggage-friendly, predictable travel.
- Rabat-Salé tramway (≈6 MAD (single ticket)) - The Rabat-Salé tram runs across much of Rabat and Salé and is useful for moving around central Rabat, connecting with major bus and train hubs. Note: the tram does not extend into Temara itself, so it’s most useful if you’re transferring through Rabat; buy single tickets at stations and validate on board.
- Car rental / driving (≈250-600 MAD/day) - Renting a car gives full flexibility for exploring the coast and nearby sights; expect standard international rental options in Rabat and Casablanca. Watch for narrow streets in medina areas and limited parking in busy spots - driving is handy for day trips but less convenient for routine commuting into central Rabat when trains and taxis are faster.
- Walking - Temara’s coastal areas, medina streets, and local neighborhoods are pleasant to explore on foot for short distances; walking is the best way to enjoy the corniche and local markets. Distances between Rabat and Temara are too long to walk, but within Temara itself you can cover the main sights easily by foot.
