Tell Beydar is an archaeological tell in northeastern Syria that preserves an extensive Early Bronze Age urban settlement. Excavations have demonstrated the site’s role as a substantial regional centre in the third millennium BCE.
Excavated deposits include massive mudbrick architecture, public and administrative buildings and artifact assemblages indicative of urban planning and long-term occupation. Finds from the tell document craft production, administration and ritual activity.
The settlement grew and changed through the Bronze Age and later periods, with phases of construction and rebuilding reflected in the stratified archaeological record. The site is an important source for understanding early urbanism in northern Mesopotamia.
